RADICAL YES FITTING SALON

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As long-time customers of Radical Yes and fellow North Melbourne locals, we were thrilled with the opportunity to re-energise the Fitting Salon – celebrating the brand’s energy and giving the store an overdue refresh.

The design approach was to take the space back to its essence: a fitting salon. The key elements of display, shoe fitting and point of sale are clarified with a rational layout for the compact space.

A modular storage system has been employed along one wall, where the entire range of shoes, boots, bags and sunglasses are showcased. The product can be grouped by colour story or seasonal collection, and the modular system allows for adjustment over time.

The signature elements of the existing space – a luscious and iconic chartreuse velvet curtain, a wall of mirror panels and heritage pressed tin ceiling – remain and were embraced as part of the new works. As a counterpunch to the existing curtain, we injected a summer-blue sky painted ceiling dip that interplays with the playful blue checkerboard-pattern carpet tiles. This is offset by moments of deep red and a graphically striped fitting bench (Ari by SBW in Kvadrat Raf Simons upholstery).
